ABOUT
This page has been evolving since 1994.
Ben Croxford started at the Bartlett Graduate School as a post doctoral researcher investigating the spatial distribution of air pollution in streets, later he carried out research on pollution in homes and offices and has most recently been working on more general research projects in the environmental area. He runs two email networks, one of air pollution researchers and the other of ex-EDE students and associates. Contact details can be found in the corner of this page.

RESEARCH Research carried out covers several categories; air pollution outside, air pollution in offices, air pollution in homes, housing and health, urban heat island, and more general environmental and sustainability issues. Outdoor air pollution research involved developing StreetBox monitors using electro-chemical sensors, using carbon monoxide (CO) as a proxy for the general "air pollution" as perceived by people on the street. Air pollution was measured in several closely spaced positions simultaneously. Pollutant concentrations were found to differ significantly between closely spaced locations, different sides of the street experienced different pollutant concentrations depending on prevailing wind direction. Another research project found that variations in pollutant concentration between homes with the same ventilation system was found to be at least as big as that between homes with different ventilation systems. Most recently, research has found a high percentage of homes with defective gas appliance installations and a potential link between chronic neurological health symptoms and risk of CO exposure.
